Development near coastal real estate and lakes and rivers is increasing. The proximity to the water is desirable, yet requires diligent monitoring to maintain water quality during dredging and other phases of construction.
Goal: Providing Baseline Data for Construction Impacts
Organization: Unique Maritime Group
Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Challenge: Government regulations require multiple contractors to collect environmental data for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) during coastal construction in the Arabian Gulf.
Solution: YSI coastal monitoring platforms provide baseline and real-time data to multiple parties and stakeholders.
The scalable network design (datalogger and telemetry) will easily accommodate additional platforms as construction progresses.
Dollars and $ense:
The cost of an integrated platform which monitors atmospheric data, currents, solar, wave, tide, and turbidity is less expensive than the cost of separate systems and equipment.
Goal: Providing Real-time Data Alerts during Construction
Organization: Tyne & Wear Passenger Transport Authority
Location: Tyne River, northeast England
Challenge: Environment regulations require construction operators to collect environmental data in order to protect an estuarine system during the dredging and installation of a transportation tunnel in a river.
Solution: YSI was contracted to design, install and maintain monitoring stations that provided continuous monitoring data from five locations in the river. The real-time data was web-accessible to the key stakeholders, including the dredging company and the environment agency.
Dollars and $ense:
Cost of purchasing only the monitoring data for a short-term contract was more economical than purchasing all the assets and equipment.
